Willis E. Berndt, 93, of Reedsburg, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at Our House in Reedsburg. He was born July 25, 1928, in the township of Wonewoc to the late Willis and Ina (Degner) Berndt. Willis was an active member of St.Peter's Lutheran Church in Loganville.
He had many careers over the years, including farmer, milk hauler, mechanic, school bus driver, maintenance man, and Walmart greeter. His favorite was a Patrolman for the Town of Summit for 22 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a huge fan of Ford, Packers, and NASCAR. Willie and Helen belonged to a Coachman’s Club and enjoyed traveling in their Coachman Travel Trailer.
Survivors include his children, Jackie (Don) Rockweiler of Reedsburg, Daniel (Carol) Nemitz of Reedsburg, and Pamella Meske of Wausau; Grandchildren: Brian (Stacy) Rockweiler of McHenry, IL, Corey (Lisa) Rockweiler of Rock Springs, Scott Rockweiler of Reedsburg, Dana Mossak, Trista (Chris) Jones, and Steven Meske all of Wausau; Great-grandchildren: Ty, Nicholas, Trevor, Jacob, Emma, Wyatte, Gretchen and Brooke Rockweiler, Isaiah, Coral and Leah Mossak, Ila and Sydney Jones and Olin Meske; brothers and sisters: Jim (Marilyn) Berndt, Michael Berndt, Barb (Bob) Stull, Opal Stittleburg, Sharon (Pat) Pesik, and Jane (David) Moyer and sisters-in-law Paula Berndt and Dorothy Berndt. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and his dog, Toby. The family would like to extend gratitude to the staff of Our House and his close friends Hank and Deanna Elfers.
In addition to his wife Helen, he was preceded in death by his siblings Bill and Sidney Berndt, brother-in-law, Don Stittleburg, and sister-in-law Gloria Berndt.
Funeral services for Willis will be conducted on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at 2:00 pm at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Loganville with Pastor Donald Glanzer and Vicar Nathaniel Adkins officiating. St. Peter’s requires masks to be worn for the service. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg and on Sunday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in the Mauston City Cemetery.
